KMSA and Printech embrace the future of printing through partnership agreement

As one of the leaders and innovators in the digital print market, Bidvest company, Konica Minolta South Africa, recognises that the printing industry is rapidly changing and that collaboration between traditional and digital printers – commonly seen as two separate industries – is needed to promote both the future and sustainability of the printing industry.


To facilitate this view, Konica Minolta South Africa has partnered with a local market leader in commercial litho printing, Printech, to jointly provide a digital solution to the South African commercial printing industry.


Under the partnership agreement, Printech will promote and sell the Konica Minolta South Africa range of bizhub digital presses, including the C8000, C7000, C6000 and bizhub PRO B1200, B1051 and B950. Konica Minolta South Africa will provide all after sales technical support though its 14 branches and 43 dealerships.


According to Leon Minnie, product specialist, production systems at Konica Minolta South Africa, the partnership will ultimately benefit, promote and add value to the commercial printing market. He says: “Within the printing market, the need for on-demand printing can no longer be ignored and, to be as competitive as possible, traditional printers will need to embrace the need for digital presses. We are honoured that a company of Printech’s reputation recognises the potential of our machines.”


A similar agreement has been made between Heidelberg and Konica Minolta in Australia, further illustrating the quality of- and the trust in the Konica Minolta brand.


According to co-owner of Printech, Graham Townsend, the company acknowledges that traditional litho printers will have to have a digital printing platform to ensure they are in a position to meet the ever growing “print on demand” requirements of their customers.


“It really is a matter of necessity rather than a ‘nice to have’ option,” says Townsend. “If one printer has the digital facility and the other does not, the work will automatically go to the printing company that is able to meet the demand. As we all are aware, the print runs are getting smaller and smaller, which better suits the cost effectiveness of the digital printing platform.”


The Printech brand is associated with products that enhance value and Townsend says that it was easy to recognise Konica Minolta South Africa as a leader in the digital print arena. “It made sense to partner with Konica Minolta South Africa. We have followed the company’s progress for some time and when Heidelberg Australia announced at IPEX this year that they are partnering with Konica Minolta Australia, it reaffirmed our decision.


“We firmly believe that the vast array of products available from Konica Minolta South Africa offer unbelievable value for money and are affordable. In fact, Konica Minolta South Africa offers the lowest cost for ‘litho quality print’ when compared to its competitors,” says Townsend.


Digital printing technology has evolved and it is proven to add value to traditional “short run” jobs, completing these quicker, easier and more cost effectively and, moreover, producing an output quality that complements conventional printing.


“Digital printing equipment creates new business opportunities for commercial printers as they are now able to do jobs previously not achievable on litho, such as personalisation, flexibility, shorter print runs on demand and a faster turnaround time. It really opens up the possibility for printers to set up a one stop printing business that caters for all jobs – small or large. The Konica Minolta South Africa and Printech partnership also allows commercial clients to turn to one of their ‘own people’ for credible advice, just as they did when they purchased their litho machines,” says Minnie.


He emphasises that both Konica Minolta South Africa and Printech have the same outlook and business principles when it comes to delivering excellent service and support to its clients.


“Printech is therefore assured of the full back up and support from Konica Minolta South Africa, giving its clients the peace of mind that they will be looked after in the short-term while Printech gears itself to service and support the Konica Minolta kit. Together, we are looking ahead to create a business platform that will assure our clients of sustainable products and support,” says Minnie.


Townsend corroborates, “We at Printech understand that we need to embrace digital printing to ensure we continue to grow within the printing industry in Southern Africa. This is not to say that we will lose focus on our core business, which has allowed us to achieve fantastic growth over the years. It will simply complement our existing business and allow for further growth within the industry.


“Our strength in the digital production market will stem from the relationships we enjoy with our existing clients who will come to recognise their need to move into the digital print market. Printech is renowned as a superior service provider and we will extend this into the digital market. This is a further reason why all potential digital customers will offer Printech an opportunity to quote on- and maintain their digital equipment.”
