Konica Minolta South Africa’s multifunctional bizhub range continues to rake in industry awards. The new Konica Minolta bizhub C550 digital colour MFP has already won three Bertl awards - two “Innovation” awards, one for the bizhub C550’s biometric authentication, another for the user box features and a third award for Best Departmental Colour MFP Range award for 2007. Judges were impressed by the bizhub C550’s biometric authentication scanner, which allows only verified users to access the copying, printing, scanning and faxing features available in both colour and black and white, a feature that boosts the C550’s security. This unique biometric authentication makes use of finger vein authentication.
An infrared LED illumination allows the camera to capture an image of the veins inside the finger. The vein pattern is then registered to the user, which means access to the C550 is only available if the vein pattern matches during the authentication process, verifying the user. Konica Minolta South Africa colour division manager, Marianna Gdanis, says the awards follow on the Bertl Readers Choice “End User Platinum Award 2006” for colour productivity, which was awarded to the Konica Minolta bizhub range. “Productivity is not just about timing how fast a job comes out of the printer or MFP, it is about the entire process from inception to final output. The fantastic thing about this award, is that IT Managers and business buyers from 56 countries around the world participated in the survey to determine the most outstanding manufacturers in the digital imaging marketplace from the perspective of end users,” she says.
In addition, Konica Minolta received a Bertl’s Best award in the category “Best Light Production Monochrome MFP Range with an Outstanding Print Feature Set.” Judges noted the well laid out user interface from both the desktop and the device, good image quality across the board with good fine line detailing, excellent halftone and grayscale reproduction and crisp text down to small point sizes. Konica Minolta’s new print workflow solution, Printgroove, received a Bertl’s Best award for innovation. It consists of three modules – POD Queue, POD Serve and POD Guide – that integrate and automate production printing environments. Gdanis says the internationally recognised BERTL awards have established credibility in the industry because they have remained independent. “The awards have built their reputation by not aligning themselves to any office automation or IT companies,” she says. BERTL is a leading source for objective, independent product evaluation reports and comparative analysis on digital imaging devices and software.
Its reports, customer satisfaction research, awards and product ratings are undertaken entirely at its own expense for the benefit of its international subscriber base. At all times BERTL’s primary focus is the end user. The company publishes the world’s largest library of reports on copiers, printers, MFPs, fax and colour and production devices. “When our products receive these awards, it helps Konica Minolta cement its reputation for building excellent output products for general office and production users, at affordable prices,” she says.
