PRESS RELEASE ISSUED BY OGILVY PUBLIC RELATIONS WORLDWIDE Minolta South Africa changes name to Konica Minolta South Africa to reflect strengthened partnership [ Johannesburg, 23 November 2006 ] - Bidvest Group company, Minolta South Africa, has further strengthened its 30-year relationship with Konica Minolta Business Technologies Japan Inc, receiving international recognition as top distributor and obtaining permission to trade as Konica Minolta South Africa. As a result of consistent performance and the long-standing relationship with its principal in Japan, Minolta South Africa will, with immediate effect, trade as Konica Minolta South Africa to reflect the company's status as the principal importer and distributor of Konica Minolta's bizhub range of multifunctional products. Konica Minolta South Africa MD, Alan Griffith says this concession to trade with the Konica Minolta name is an honour, as Konica Minolta Business Technologies Japan Inc does not have a shareholding in the South African operation and distributors are not usually permitted to trade under the brand name. Adding further strength to Konica Minolta South Africa's position, the Konica Minolta printer division representative for Africa and Middle East, appointed by Konica Minolta Printing Solutions Europe, will be based at Konica Minolta South Africa's head office in Johannesburg. "Although there are other distributors of Konica Minolta printers in South Africa, Konica Minolta Business Technologies Japan Inc has acknowledged Konica Minolta South Africa as the brand custodians in the country," says Griffith. At a recent international Konica Minolta conference, the South African operation was awarded Best Performer of the Year 2005 by Konica Minolta Business Technologies Japan Inc. The award, which excludes the large European and American markets, acknowledged Konica Minolta South Africa as the best performer ahead of 20 Konica Minolta distributors based in the rest of the world.
In fact, Konica Minolta South Africa would have been the fourth best performer in Europe, behind England. Griffith says the accolade was bestowed for outstanding performance in sales of Konica Minolta bizhub multifunctional products in 2005. "Factors such as achieving 43.8% market share in the colour market and introducing high volume devices aimed at the production print market have contributed to our success," he says.
